Some of the nation's biggest airlines raised most domestic fares by an additional $20 roundtrip over the weekend.
As this is the 17th rate increase, very soon all lower middle class, will be priced out of any Holiday travel to meet family members.
To HELL with the carriers! If they start charging for my FIRST baggage, that will be the end of flying for my family of five. The airlines will certainly no longer get a penny from me! This is shameless opportunism, at its worst! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
If you go into a grocery store and by a box of cereal. EVERY person who buys that same cereal at that store will pay the same price you did. So, if the grocery store raises the price by a buck a box to cover their rising prices, everybody knows it.
Get on an airplane with 100 seats, there will have been 98 different fares paid for those seats, probably even if they were sold the same day.
Raising the cost by 20 bucks, who can tell?
Well I hear plenty of complaining; but I'm sure there's lots of people that could be customers; but are being completely ignored. I'm sure that out of the 13mil + undocumented at least a couple million of them could afford to visit family in a different state, or even take a vacation to spend their hard earned cash to benefit American neighborhoods across the land. Yet, stubbornly, they cannot board because they lack proper ID and there's no formal process in which they could come out and be given the opportunity to pass through the scrutiny of any governmental agency or even pay to pass through any battery of background testing to be able to travel across the country.
Fears unfounded that they will take jobs, yet they already have jobs. So whats the big issue of letting people who drive without a licence and hold jobs, that they interviewed for and are qualified to do , and have them with a form of ID that can allow them to fly around the country if they so wished. Terrorist wouldn't go for it, they'd rather not be scrutinized by any government agency to determine if they are a threat or not. So in the interest of National security Have them scrutinized, and for the sake of the economy have them being able to fully contribute to the economy.
It's claimed they take from the economy, why not let the undocumented contribute even more of their paycheck to the economy? To keep it into perspective, I only say that I would like to see the statistics of airline tickets bought before people who were undocumented were allowed to have ID's and board a plane, before ICE was at the airports detaining the undocumented. Just out of curiosity.
This last week I opted to drive from Florida to Indiana because it was cheaper to drive at $4.00 per gallon than to fly. Does that tell you anything about airfare? I don't know about the rest of frequent flyers, but I am tired of being charged more and getting less. It might take me several hours longer to travel to my final destination and return, but with a cell phone and laptop I can keep up with the office....AND....AND I can have a real meal instead of stale nuts and half a cup of coffee or soda. One other thing - single ticket round trip airfare was $336 and round trip auto fuel (with 7 days of time with my family) was $240. Business trip turned into special time with family - PRICELESS.
